Book or file before you fly
- TDAC — Thailand Digital Arrival Card. Mandatory, free, one per person. Submit within 72 hours before arrival at tdac.immigration.go.th — the only official site. Anything charging a fee is a scam. Save the QR to your phone.
- iStudio Traveller Reservation — check MacBook stock and reserve for pickup at the Terminal 2 store before you fly. Airport stores rarely hold high-end Pro configs.
- International Driving Permit from your RTO — required with an Indian licence for the BMW day. Without it, the insurance is void and Thai police do check.
- Hanuman World — zipline sessions run at fixed times (08:00 / 10:00 / 13:00 / 15:00). Book the slot you want.
- Phi Phi big-boat day (20 Sep) and the Krabi island day (22 Sep) — book both, and pick operators with a free weather-cancellation policy.
- Yona Beach Club day pass for 23 Sep. Day Pass runs 14:00–21:30 daily; last check-in 17:00.
- Two private transfers: Phuket→Krabi (21 Sep) and Krabi→Phuket (23 Sep).
- Early check-in requests at Dinso (18 Sep, landing 10:50 vs 15:00 check-in) and a late-checkout note at Panwaburi for the 24th.
Entry & paperwork — Indian passports
You do not need a visa. Entry is visa-free.
- The May 2026 plan to push India back to Visa-on-Arrival was dropped on 14 Jul 2026 after Indian arrivals fell. India sits on the 30-day visa-exemption list in the new framework.
- That framework is still pending Royal Gazette publication and takes effect 15 days after. Until then the existing 60-day exemption applies. Either way a 7-night trip is comfortably covered.
- Carry proof of onward travel and accommodation — occasionally asked for at HKT immigration.
- Passport validity 6+ months beyond entry.
Re-check the Royal Gazette status in early September. If anything changes, the fallback is a Tourist e-Visa at thaievisa.go.th — the only official portal — which needs 3–14 working days, so apply by roughly 1 Sep if you want the safety net.
Flights & the Changi window
| When | Leg | Local time | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thu 17 | Mumbai BOM → Singapore SIN | 23:50 → 07:40+1 | Overnight, ~5h25m. Leave home ~19:30 — Mumbai monsoon traffic is the real risk, not the airport. |
| Fri 18 | Layover · Terminal 2 | 2h 05m | iStudio, T2 Level 2 — open 06:00–01:00. ~50 usable minutes after you clear the aerobridge. GST off with a boarding pass. Stay airside. |
| Fri 18 | Singapore SIN → Phuket HKT | 09:45 → 10:50 | ~1h45m in the air; Thailand is 1h behind Singapore. |
| Thu 24 | Phuket HKT → Singapore SIN | 11:40 → 14:55 | Leave Cape Panwa by 07:45, not 09:00 — see the note below. |
| Thu 24 | Layover · second Apple window | 3h 55m | The comfortable one. If the T2 buy didn't happen on the 18th, it happens here. |
| Thu 24 | Singapore SIN → Mumbai BOM | 18:50 → ~21:45 | ~5h25m. Confirm the arrival time on your ticket. |
Departure-day warning. Panwaburi is on Cape Panwa, the far southeast corner — 44 km and 60–75 minutes from HKT, worse in traffic. Leaving at 09:00 puts you at the terminal ~10:15 for an 11:40 international departure. Move it to 07:45–08:00 and you keep a real buffer.
On the MacBook: Indian customs duty applies on a new laptop above the personal allowance. Keep the invoice accessible and know what you intend to declare.
Weather protocol — September is peak southwest monsoon
- September is the rainiest month on the Andaman coast. 25–31 °C, humidity over 80%, sea at 29 °C. Rain comes as hard hour-long downpours, not all-day grey.
- Swell runs 2–3 m. Red flags on west-coast beaches — Patong, Kalim, Kata — mean strong rip currents. Do not swim past a red flag, whatever anyone else is doing.
- Boat days can cancel. Check the night before and again at breakfast. Book operators with free weather cancellation.
- Sheltered fallback: Phang Nga Bay. Its limestone walls block the monsoon, so it stays runnable when Phi Phi and the Krabi islands don't. Keep it as the swap-in for 20 or 22 Sep.
- Maya Bay is closed 1 Aug – 30 Sep 2026 for reef recovery — annual, every year since 2022. Boats still run to Phi Phi and pass the bay; you'll see the cliffs and the beach curve from the water but cannot land. It reopens 1 Oct, a week after you leave.
- Similan Islands are also shut until mid-October — not on this plan, but worth knowing if someone suggests it.
- Sunset is ~18:42, sunrise ~06:18. Plan viewpoints for 18:00–18:30 arrival.
Getting around
| Mode | Use it for | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tuk-tuk | Short hops inside Patong / Ao Nang | ฿200–400 | Never metered. Agree the fare before you sit down. "We agree later" means walk away. |
| Tuk-tuk | Patong ↔ Phuket Old Town | ~฿600 | Longer beach-to-beach runs are ฿500–800. |
| Grab / Bolt | Everything, honestly | ฿400–950 | Fixed price in-app, usually cheaper than a negotiated tuk-tuk. HKT→Patong ~฿750–950. |
| Airport taxi | HKT → Patong on arrival | ฿600–700 + ฿100 | 45–75 min. The ฿100 airport fee is separate. |
| Private car | Phuket ↔ Krabi ×2 | ฿2,100–3,400 | ~160 km, 2h40m–3h door to door. Hotel-to-hotel, fixed fare. |
| BMW convertible | Your one luxury day | ฿15,000–19,000 | See below. |
The one-day luxury car
- BMW Z4 sDrive30i — from ~฿15,000/day. The sensible open-top pick.
- BMW 4 Series Convertible — from ~฿19,000/day. Folding hard-top, so a downpour is survivable.
- BMW i8 Roadster — ~฿36,900/day if you want the photographs more than the drive.
Operators worth quoting: Richcars Thailand, Phuket Insider, Elite Auto Rent, Infinity Cars Rental, and SIXT's luxury line. Most deliver and collect at your hotel, and want only a passport copy plus licence.
In September, take the 4 Series over the Z4. A folding hard-top means a sudden downpour doesn't end the day. And whichever you take, an IDP is mandatory — no IDP, no insurance.
Best day for it: 19 Sep. Old Town in the morning and Hanuman World in the afternoon are both inland east-coast runs on good tarmac, and the coast road back to Patong via Kalim at sunset is the drive you're paying for.
Veg Indian, by town
Patong — this is where the pure-veg density is.
- Shree Ganesha — pure vegetarian & 100% Jain, 4.8 on TripAdvisor. The safest pick in Phuket.
- Govinda — 60 Rat-U-Thit 200 Year Rd. North & South Indian, Jain and vegan options.
- Hare Krishna Phuket — pure veg North Indian near Patong Beach.
- Chotivala — 100% pure veg & Jain; thalis, masala dosa, Indian-Chinese.
Phuket Old Town — thin on pure-veg Indian; these are the vegetarian options.
- Hesan — widely called the best vegetarian restaurant in the Old Town.
- Vegan Phuket — garden setting, very pretty, excellent service.
- Dok Bua — modern Thai vegetarian on a T-junction corner.
Ao Nang, Krabi
- Govinda's — Ao Nang's original pure-veg house, open since 2016. Indian curries, South Indian, Thai, vegan and Jain; no-onion-no-garlic on request. Buffet ~฿350. Floor cushions or tables.
- Pure Vegetarian Dosa Kitchen — 153 Soi 8, in the middle of Ao Nang. Go for the masala dosa.
On the 22nd, Railay has no pure-veg Indian at all. Eat properly in Ao Nang before the boat, or accept Thai vegetarian on the beach.
Old Town cafés & heritage
- Aungku Phuket — corner of Thalang Road and Soi Romanee, the most photographed building in Phuket right now. Pink flower wall, mirrors, aesthetic pastries, and an upstairs floor that photographs even better than the ground.
- The Bookhemian — Soi Romanee. A rustic split-level Sino-Portuguese shophouse doing serious coffee, books, local art and film. The one to sit in rather than shoot.
- Soi Romanee itself — pastel facades and bougainvillea, the most photogenic lane in southern Thailand.
- Baan Chinpracha — 98 Krabi Rd, 09:00–16:30, ฿150. An intact 1903 Peranakan mansion: original European floor tiles, antique furniture, central air well, and Baba-Nyonya dresses you can try on.
- Thaihua Museum — 28 Krabi Rd, 09:00–17:00, ฿200 (+฿200 photo pass), closed Mondays. 16 rooms on the Hokkien tin-mining families who built the town. Pick up the street-art trail map here — 30+ murals hide in the lanes.
Go early. By late morning the Old Town fills with cars and people and the light goes harsh. You're there on a Saturday, which is also the Sunday-walking-street's busier sibling — expect crowds building from noon.
Krabi — sunset, massage, nightlife
Sunset (~18:42)
- Avani's own rooftop bar — you're staying on a cliff facing the Andaman. Zero travel, and the best odds on a rainy evening.
- Frog Beach Bar, Nopparat Thara — plastic stools, cold drinks, panoramic sea. The local favourite.
- Ao Nang Beach promenade — busiest and easiest, bars all along it.
- Klong Muang Beach — 10 km out, calmer and far less crowded if you want the quiet version.
- Phra Nang Cave Beach — spectacular, but it needs a longtail and you don't want to be hunting a boat after dark. Save it for the 22nd, in daylight.
Massage
- Royal Palm Spa — top-rated in Ao Nang. Thai, aromatherapy, hot stone, head spa.
- The Best Life Thai Massage & Spa — friendly, consistently strong reviews.
- NewLifeMassage — on the beach road near the 7-Eleven; the locals' pick.
- Avani has its own spa — simplest after a 3-hour drive.
Nightlife — Ao Nang is laid-back beach bars, not a club district. Calibrate expectations.
- Chang Bar — the closest thing to a proper club: live music, cheap drinks, actual dance floor.
- Bamboo Beach Club — the high-energy, aesthetic beach-party option.
- Tribe Beach Bar — electronic, cocktails, sand underfoot.
- Boogie Bar and Roots Rock Reggae — the long-running Ao Nang staples.
- Fire-poi shows on the beach from around 23:00 on a busy night.

Money, SIM, small print
- Carry ฿ cash for the things cards can't do: national park fees (Phi Phi is ฿400 per person, not included in tour prices), tuk-tuks, longtail boats, beach bars.
- Ao Nang → Railay longtail is ฿100 pp until 18:00, ฿150 after. Boats leave when ~8 people fill them, 10–15 min crossing. They stop running when the sea is rough — in low season the last boat back can be much earlier than you expect, so confirm the return time with your boatman on the way over.
- Travel insurance that explicitly covers watersports and zipline activities.
- eSIM before you land beats queuing at HKT arrivals.
- Thailand is 1h behind Singapore and 1h30m ahead of India. The 18 Sep landing time is Thai time.
